Open Question: Surf Fishing set up (10 points) !!!?

I went surf fishing by oxnard southern california and i didnt catch any fish my set up was 7 foot rod 10 pound line , carolina rig , 1 oz egg sinker, and i casted to the surf line and for bait i used sandworm and sand crab or sand flea.
